NEW DELHI: After bowling out India for 436 in their first innings, England went to lunch at 89/1 in their second innings with Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope fighting it out in the middle.
Duckett was particularly swift in run-scoring and alongwith Pope, took England’s deficit under 100. Duckett and Pope put up a fifty-run stand off just 43 deliveries.
On the last ball of the second over after lunch, Jasprit Bumrah bowled a superb ball from round the wicket that had sharp seam movement from a length cramping Duckett for room.Duckett stayed in his crease to dab it into the off-side and didn’t account for the inward movement and was trapped in front of middle.
The Indians appealed but the umpire turned it down and captain Rohit Sharma didn’t go for the review. But ball-tracking in the replays showed that the ball was hitting leg stump.
An undeterred Bumrah in his next over got his man with a more vicious delivery that didn’t need the umpire’s nod.
The Indian pace spearhead bowled a snorter at 142.4kph that swung in at good length and further nipped back in off the seam.
Duckett (47) went for a shot away from his body without accounting for the movement, got beaten on the inside edge and the ball uprooted the off-stump, much to the delight of Bumrah, his teammates and the Hyderabad crowd.
The Indian cricket board (BCCI) uploaded the video of the dismissal on X:
