NEW DELHI: Shortly after his team left for a Test series in Australia, Pakistan‘s cricket board upgraded Test captain Shan Masood‘s contract on Thursday from ‘D’ to ‘B’ category.
Masood, 34, was appointed Test captain on November 15 and will hold the position until the end of the 2023-25 cycle of the ICC World Test Championship. Babar Azam resigned after Pakistan’s disastrous 50-over World Cup match in India.
“The PCB has decided to upgrade Pakistan Test captain Shan Masood’s category in the central contract list from D to B,” the PCB said in a statement.
“The decision has been made in line with board’s policy that if a centrally contracted player below A or B categories is appointed captain, their contract shall be upgraded to category B for the tenure of their captaincy.”
With 30 Test appearances, the left-handed batsman has scored 1,597 runs.
The team left for Australia on Wednesday night.
On December 14, in Perth, the three-match Test series against Australia gets underway. From December 6-9, the team will play a tour match in Canberra against the Australian PM XI.
