“Wishing you a speedy recovery and good health, Mohammed Shami! I’m confident you’ll overcome this injury with the courage that is so integral to you,” Modi wrote.
Earlier, Shami Shami took to social media to share an update about his successful heel operation on his Achilles tendon.
“Just had a successful heel operation on my Achilles tendon! Recovery is going to take some time, but looking forward to getting back on my feet #AchillesRecovery #HeelSurgery #RoadToRecovery,” Shami wrote.
Shami was sidelined for the home T20I series against Australia after the ICC World Cup last year, and his absence continued through the entire South Africa tour and the subsequent Afghanistan series. He’s currently not participating in the ongoing Test series against England.
The 33-year-old, who hasn’t featured in the current five-match Test series against England, last represented India in the ODI World Cup final against Australia in November.
Despite grappling with landing issues, he emerged as the tournament’s highest wicket-taker, dismissing 24 batters in just 7 matches.
Shami played through discomfort during India’s remarkable World Cup campaign, showcasing remarkable resilience that didn’t affect his performance.
Unfortunately, the latest update indicates his unavailability for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season, dealing a significant blow to the franchise.
Shami’s absence will be keenly felt by the Gujarat Titans, where he led the pace attack and played a pivotal role in the team’s success in previous seasons.
During IPL 2022, he claimed 20 wickets, followed by an even more impressive performance in IPL 2023, where he took 28 wickets at an average of 18.64. Shami’s effectiveness, especially with the new ball, was instrumental in his team’s victories.
