Dinesh Karthik went hammer and tongs against MI bowlers in the death overs, prompting Rohit to tickle his funny bone and tease the RCB batter while fielding at the first slip.
“Shabash DK, World Cup khelna hain abhi,” Rohit was heard saying referring to his remark to the upcoming T20 World Cup slated to be held in USA and West Indies.
Karthik (53 not out off 23 balls) produced just the kind of knock RCB needed towards the end of the innings as they posted a solid 196/8 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Karthik, who watched the parade with his teammates from the other end, finished it in style, hitting Akash Madhwal for two sixes and a four in successive balls as they got 19 runs from the final over.
Karthik completed his half-century off 22 balls, hitting five boundaries and four sixes, essaying the finisher’s role to perfection as RCB fell just short of the 200-run mark.
Earlier, Rohit highlighted that he doesn’t do it deliberately and being a captain of the national team he keeps himself placed in a slip cordon to take the stock of DRS. Therefore he regularly communicates with fielders and these discussions inadvertently get captured on the microphone.
“See, I don’t have any favourite line as such and I don’t even do it deliberately. Now I am the captain so I stand in the slips, because the angle from there helps me get a better look at the fielders and take stock of DRS. So I keep talking to the fielders and it gets recorded,” he said.
