NEW DELHI: A life-size statue honouring the cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar is set to be unveiled on Wednesday on the eve of the World Cup match between India and Sri Lanka at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium.
Earlier this year, plans were revealed to install the statue of Tendulkar, who celebrated his 50th birthday in April. The statue, depicting the iconic batter in motion while playing a stroke, has been positioned adjacent to the Sachin Tendulkar stand within the stadium.Final touches were being added to the statue in preparation for the inauguration, scheduled for Tuesday.

The unveiling ceremony is expected to be attended by various dignitaries, including Maharashtra’s chief minister Eknath Shinde, deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, Sachin Tendulkar himself, BCCI secretary Jay Shah, treasurer Ashish Shelar, along with officials from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) such as president Amol Kale, secretary Ajinkya Naik, and other members of the apex council.
Pramod Kamble, a painter-sculptor from Ahmednagar in the state, is credited with creating the statue that will stand as a tribute to Tendulkar’s legacy. Notably, this installation at the Wankhede Stadium comes almost a decade after Tendulkar’s final game for India, which took place against the West Indies in a two-match Test series back in November 2013.
