NEW DELHI: Amidst a huge fanfare, a life-sized statue of cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar was revealed in a grand ceremony at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on the eve of the World Cup match between India and Sri Lanka.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde unveiled a magnificent and radiant bronze statue in the presence of Sachin and his entire family.

The event was also graced by the presence of Sports Minister Sanjay Bansode, Nationalist Congress Party President Sharad Pawar, BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla, BCCI Secretary Jai Shah, Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) President Amol Kale, Secretary Ajinkya Naik, and various other BCCI and MCA officials.

The statue, capturing the iconic batsman in the act of playing a stroke, is positioned adjacent to the Sachin Tendulkar stand. It serves as a tribute to his 50 years of life, commemorating his 50th birthday celebrated in April of this year.
The statue has been made by Pramod Kamble, a painter-sculptor from Ahmednagar in the state.
The selected pose, after scouring thousands of action images of Tendulkar, finally zeroed down to the memorable sixer shot in a lofted drive pose, with his left leg extended, body slightly bent, head high and the bat pointing at the sky, and had the personal approval of the cricketing giant.

Tendulkar’s statue, at his homeground Wankhede Stadium, was installed nearly 10 years after he played his last game for India, against the West Indies in a two-match Test series in November 2013.
Conferred the Bharat Ratna in 2014, Tendulkar is a veteran of 15,921 runs in 200 Tests, besides amassing 18,426 runs in ODIs.
