Rohit Sharma, the captain of the Indian cricket team, has been appointed as the skipper of the ICC Men’s ODI Team of the Year 2023, which features prominent Indian players such as Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, Mohammed Siraj, Mohammed Shami and Kuldeep Yadav.
“Stars from Australia and India that went head-to-head in the final of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup dominate the ICC Men’s ODI Team of the Year for 2023,” the International Cricket Council (ICC) said in an official statement on Tuesday.

In 2023, Rohit’s outstanding performance saw him amassing 1255 runs at an average of 52. His exceptional form extended to the ODI World Cup, where he played a pivotal role at the top of the order.

Team-of-the-Year

Emerging as Rohit’s preferred opening partner in the team, young talent Shubman Gill showcased his prowess by accumulating 1584 runs during the calendar year.
Australia opener Travis Head, known for his class and clutch performances, had a stellar 2023. His impactful contributions, including a sensational 137 against India in the World Cup decider, played a crucial role in Australia securing their sixth World Cup title.
Virat Kohli, India’s batting maestro, had a record-breaking 2023, scoring centuries on six occasions. During the World Cup, he surpassed Sachin Tendulkar’s world record for the most ODI centuries and earned the Player of the Tournament award.
Daryl Mitchell from New Zealand stood out, smashing five centuries and accumulating a total of 1204 runs at an average of 52.34.
South Africa’s Heinrich Klaasen was picked as the wicketkeeper-batter in the team . He showcased his batting prowess with a superb 109 against England in the World Cup.
Proteas pacer Marco Jansen secured a spot in the Team of the Year due to his outstanding performances with both bat and ball over the last 12 months.
Australia spinner Adam Zampa, with three consecutive four-wicket hauls during the World Cup, found a place in the ODI team and finished as the second-highest wicket-taker in the tournament.
India’s bowling trio of Mohammed Siraj, Mohammed Shami and spinner Kuldeep Yadav showcased their excellence in 2023.
Siraj claimed 44 wickets in 2023, Shami emerged as the highest wicket-taker in the ODI World Cup with four five-wicket hauls and Kuldeep finished the year with an impressive tally of 49 ODI scalps.
