This is the first instance of South Africa finishing with less than 400 at home against Bangladesh
Innings South Africa 367 (Bavuma 93, Elgar 67, Khaled 4-92, Mehidy 3-94) vs Bangladesh
South Africa’s lower order frustrated Bangladesh, the last two wickets adding 69, before they were bowled out for 367. This is the first time the hosts are making less than 400 in a Test innings at home against Bangladesh.
Simon Harmer remained unbeaten on 38, but farmed the strike very well in adding 34 for the ninth wicket with Lizaad Williams and 35 runs for the tenth wicket with Duanne Olivier. It was over when Mehidy Hasan Miraz had Olivier lbw for 12.
The story of the day so far, though, was South Africa’s rally after losing 4 for 53 in 15.5 overs. From 298 for 8, Bangladesh would’ve hoped a quick end to the innings, but that wasn’t to be.
But as soon as they looked settled, Mehidy got one to rip back into Bavuma, who was giving himself room to play on the off side. The ball sneaked through, hit his legs and deflected onto the stumps. Bavuma had scored 93 in 190 balls.
Ebadot Hossain then clean bowled Maharaj for 19 in the next over. Bangladesh nearly had another when Lizaad Williams was given out lbw only to be saved by the DRS, with the ball having pitched outside leg.
