DC vs SRH Highlights IPL 2022: David Warner, Rovman Powell batting heroics help Delhi Capitals beat Sunrisers Hyderabad

With 27 runs required in the final over, Kuldeep Yadav completes the formalities. He dismisses Kartik Tyagi in his first ball, to pick his first wicket of the match, and concedes five runs as SRH manage 186/8 in their 20 overs. With this Delhi secure a very important win as they beat by Hyderabad by 21 runs.

End of the 19th over as Shreyas Gopal hits Mitchell Marsh for two consecutive fours. Kartik Tyagi then joins the party and hits one more as 16 runs come off it. SRH: 181/7 (19 overs)

Nicholas Pooran’s stay in the middle comes to an end on 62 (34) as he tries to attack a high full-toss by Shardul Thakur, which goes up in the air before settling down in Rovman Powell’s hands. 

Meanwhile, 12 runs come off the over as SRH reach 165/7 after 18 overs.

Nicholas Pooran pushes a full pitched delivery by Khaleel Ahmed for a single to reach his half-century. He takes just 29 balls to complete the milestone. 

Meanwhile, Sean Abbott hits Khaleel Ahmed for a six but is packed in the very next ball. Ripal Patel takes a good catch after the ball skies up in the air. He departs for 7 (6). SRH: 153/6 (17 overs) 

Not a very big over but it is something that Sunrisers Hyderabad need at the moment. Nicholas Pooran hits Anrich Nortje for a huge six as 12 runs come off the over. SRH: 146/5 (16 overs) 

Shardul Thakur is introduced in the attack and both Nicholas Pooran and new man Shashank Singh combine to hit the seamer for 17 runs before he dismisses the latter on 10. The bowler tries to find the gap but plays it straight to Anrich Nortje at short third man.  

17 runs come off the over. SRH: 134/5 (15 overs)

Pant now goes back to Anrich Nortje. The pacer is welcomed by Nicholas Pooran with a six, who then goes on to end the over with another maximum. 16 runs come off the over as SRH reach 117/4 (14 overs).

Khaleel Ahmed bounces back strong after taking the blow as he dismisses danger man Aiden Markram in the very next ball. The batter goes for the aerial route but finds Kuldeep Yadav at the long-off region. He departs for 42 (25).

Looking at the partnership building, Rishabh Pant gets his frontline bowler Khaleel Ahmed back in the mix. He is welcomed with a four by Nicholas Pooran, who then follows it with a double. The intention was almost similar in the third delivery, but his shot, which flies straight towards the bowler hits him on his shoulders as the pair sneak a single. Khaleel is in some pain and is being attended by the physio. SRH: 97/3 (12.4 overs) 

Aiden Markram takes a sigh of relief as Nicholas Pooran sweeps a tossed up ball by Kuldeep Yadav straight to Anrich Nortje and charges for a quick single. The pacer hits the stump with a direct-hit but TV replay confirms, Markram completes his ground just at the right time. 

Meanwhile, he wraps up the over with two consecutive sixes as 13 runs come off the over. SRH: 90/3 (12 overs)

Mitchell Marsh pitches it slightly up and Aiden Markram opens the face of his bat and plays it over the in-field fielders for a boundary towards the cover region. He then follows it up with another boundary, this time it comes on the on-side. The batter doesn’t stop there and hits the Aussie for another four in his final ball as 14 runs come off the over. SRH: 77/3 (11 overs) 

We are extremely sorry for the delay in regular updates. After that Mitchell Marsh over, three more have been bowled. Two by Kuldeep and one by Marsh, which saw DRS save Nicholas Pooran from getting out LBW. 

10 overs are done as SRH reach 63/3. Nicholas Pooran is playing on 10 (9) and Aiden Markram is batting on 18 (16). 

Mitchell Marsh is introduced in the attack and he is getting to move the ball away from the batter. The Australian all-rounder strikes in his first over as Rahul Tripathi tries to attack a back of a length delivery and plays an aerial shot towards the backward square region. However, the ball goes straight to Shardul Thakur placed at the position as SRH lose their third batter. SRH: 37/3 (7 overs)

Back to back boundaries for Rahul Tripathi against Shardul Thakur as 11 runs come off the over. SRH reach 35/2 in the powerplay and need 173 more to win in 84 balls

Anrich Nortje strikes as Kane Williamson nicks a straight delivery, while trying to guide it towards the third-man as it settles in Rishabh Pant’s gloves, who dives forward to take a low catch. He departs for 5 (11).

Brilliant over by the pacer as just one run come off it. SRH: 24/2 (5 overs)

Khaleel Ahmed pitches it slightly short, slightly off the line as well and Rahul Tripathi makes the most out of it. Goes deep inside the crease and smokes the ball for a six over the backward square leg fence.

Just that six and a single in the second last delivery as seven runs come off the over. SRH: 23/1 (4 overs)

Anrich Nortje is introduced in the attack and he starts with a six-run over. SRH: 16/1 (3 overs)

After starting the chase with a four-run over, Khaleel Ahmed packs Abhishek Sharma in his first over. The batter tries to play it fine but fine, down the leg-side, but it goes straight to Kuldeep Yadav, who takes a sharp catch. He departs for 7 (6).

Five runs come off the over. SRH: 9/1 (2 overs)

Rovman Powell brings up his half-century in style. Goes deep into his crease and whacks a good length ball by Umran Malik for a maximum towards the long-off fence.

He then gets a leading edge in the third ball and it takes the edge of Powell’s bat and races for a four towards the fine-leg region. The carnage doesn’t stop here as Malik bowls a 157 kmph but Powell finds the gap as the ball races for another boundary towards the cover region. The next delivery also results for a four in the similar region.

Malik ends the over with a short delivery as they run for a single in the form of byes. 19 runs come off the final over as Delhi Capitals post 207/3 in 20 overs.

David Warner moves into the 90s as he smashes Bhuvneshwar Kumar for three fours in the penultimate over. Meanwhile, the pair of Powell and Warner have stitched a 100-plus stand as DC reach 188/3 after 19 overs.

Just nine runs come off the over bowled by Kartik Tyagi despite Rovman Powell smashing the youngster for a six. DC: 174/3 (18 overs)

Sean Abbott is hammered for two consecutive sixes by Rovman Powell. Both are back of a length deliveries as Powell knocks the ball on either side of the ground.

David Warner joins the party now. Abbott pitches it up this time and the batter whacks it straight at him, the bowler manages to get his hands on it but it still races for a four. 18 runs come off the over. DC: 165/3 (17 overs)

Even Bhuvneshwar Kumar is not spared as the seamer pitches it in Rovman Powell’s radar and the batter dispatches it for a 95-metre six over square leg.

10 runs come off the over as DC reach 147/3 after 16 overs.

How lucky is Rovman Powell tonight? After surviving a skier in the previous over, the big man is dropped by Kane Williamson off Umran Malik’s bowl. It was a routine catch but the SRH captain makes a mess out of it.

Meanwhile, the pacer comes up with a brilliant over as just two runs come off it. DC: 137/3 (15 overs)

Rovman Powell fails to control his shot off a short ball by Sean Abbott as the ball balloons up in the air. Kartik Tyagi chases it but in the end fails to cover his ground.

Meanwhile, 12 runs come off the over as DC reach 135/3 after 14 overs.

What a shot! This is some solid batting by David Warner. Kartik Tyagi pitches it up and the Aussie goes down on his knee, connects it well as the ball flies over the fine-leg fence. 11 runs come off the over as Delhi reach 123/3 after 13 overs.

Umran Malik bangs it slightly short and David Warner pulls it for a stylish four and with that he also brings up his half-century. This is his fourth fifty of the season. 

Meanwhile, 11 runs come off the over as DC reach 112-3 after 12 overs. 

Rovman Powell muscles a ball turning away from him for a huge six. He manages to hit it far against the turn as 10 runs come off the over. 100 come up for Delhi. DC: 101-3 (11 overs) 

After an expensive start, Kartik Tyagi bowls a relatively better in his second over. Just six runs come off it as DC reach 91-3 after 10 overs. 

Rishabh Pant joins the party. Shreyas Gopal drops it full, on the leg stick, allowing Pant to go down on his knees and sweep the ball for a six over the mid-wicket fence. He follows it up with another maximum, this time he smashes it on the long-on region. 

Pant is in no mood to stop. He hits the third six of the over. Charges down the track and plays it over the long-off fence this time. And this over is going from bad to worse for Shreyas Gopal. This time he pitches it up and cuts it for a four towards the third-man region. 

Final bowl is a full-toss, but the spinner has the final laugh. The ball takes an inside edge and hits the stumps. The Rishabh Pant show comes to an end on 26 (16). 

Kane Williamson goes to Aiden Markram despite the bowler being expensive in the previous encounter. David Warner makes full use of the opportunity as he hits the Proteas spinner for a flat six over his head. 11 runs come off the over as DC reach 62/2 after 8 overs.

Shreyas Gopal makes an economical start as just one run come off his first over. DC: 51-2 (7 overs)

Playing his first match of the season, Kartik Tyagi starts with a 11-run over as Delhi Capitals reach 50/2 in the powerplay. 

Sean Abbott strikes as he caught and bowls Mitchell Marsh on 10 (7). The slower ball does the trick as Marsh tries to hit it hard but reconsiders at the last moment. Bad decision as the ball flies towards the bowler, who jumps across to his right on the followthrough and grabs it clean. 

The next delivery there is a mix-up between Rishabh Pant and Warner but no damage is done as the fielder fails to collect it, allowing enough time for Warner to return back to his crease. 

Six runs come off the over as DC reach 39/2 after 5 overs.

Kane Williamson introduces Umran Malik, one of the rare occasions when he is being used inside the powerplays. However, the move backfires as 21 runs come off the over as Delhi Capitals race to 33/1 after four overs. 

Bhuvneshwar Kumar is extracting some good movement with the new ball as he bowls five consecutive dots in his second over. 

Warner then nudges the ball on the off-side as just one run come off it. DC: 12/1 (3 overs)

Sean Abbott comes to bowl the second over as we currently have an all Aussie contest in the Indian Premier League. He almost get rids of David Warner in the first ball, but Shashank Singh’s diving effort goes in vain as it beats him and races towards the boundary square of the wicket. 

Both Warner and Mitchell Marsh combine to hit Abbott for a boundary each as 11 runs come off the over. DC: 11/1 (2 overs)

Bhuvneshwar Kumar provides SRH with the perfect start. DC lose Mandeep Singh on 0 as the bowler bowls a maiden over. Mitchell Marsh is the new man in.

SRH win toss, opt to bowl

Kartik Tyagi, Shreyas Gopal and Sean Abbott will make their SRH debuts.

“This is such a beautiful stadium, it’s pretty and it has got history. The outfield resembles a carpet, the batters will love playing here, Kuldeep has some success over here because he has slowed down the pace. Chances of dew means the captain winning the toss will opt to field first.”

Shardul Thakur’s addition has not been a fruitful one, as the medium pacer has managed only seven wickets from nine matches. His economy rate too has been expensive at 9.75.

Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Kane Williamson too has not been up to the mark with the bat. The right-handed batter has managed 195 runs from nine outings and the team management will hope for a much improved show from their skipper.  

With Williamson unable to pile runs, SRH’s batting has heavily relied on opener Abhishek Sharma (324 runs in nine games), the leading run-scorer from the franchise, Aiden Markram (263 in nine games) and Rahul Tripathi (228 in nine games).

With Kane Williamson mostly introducing Umran Malik after the powerplay overs, fans might get to see some individual contest between Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant and the pacer. 

Umran Malik, who has so far been one of the most promising asset in the Sunrisers camp, had an off outing against Chennai Super Kings, leaking 48 runs in his four overs without a wicket. However, the Kashmiri pacer will hope for a change in fortune going into the clash against Delhi. 

The 22-year-old has so far picked 15 wickets from nine matches, which also include a five-wicket haul against Gujarat Titans.

Delhi Capitals have been very inconsistent as compared to the previous edition. The Rishabh Pant-led unit are yet to win two matches on the trot. Here is how they’ve fared in the tournament so far: W L L W L W L W L

Rishabh Pant, who is yet to score his first half-century of the season, has just once spent time for 30 or more balls in the ongoing edition. 

He averages 33.43 and has gathered 234 runs from the eight innings he has played.

There’s a stiff competition for the number three and four spot, with Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bangalore currently placed third and fourth respectively on the points table with 12 points each. 

The fifth spot is occupied by Sunrisers Hyderabad with 10 points, followed by Punjab Kings, who also have same number of points. 

Delhi Capitals are placed seventh, followed by Kolkata Knight Riders, who have eight points each. 

Ahead of the clash, here’s what Delhi batter David Warner had to say about his team’s chances: “Moving forward from where we are, we’ve obviously got to win every game to make it to the finals. There’s a strong competition, two teams we have got to come against – Punjab Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad, who are pretty much similar points to us. We could get that upper hand if we beat Sunrisers. We then go into the top four, but obviously, we need RCB to start losing as well. It’s quite a congested table, but exciting for the rest of the tournament.”

If we have to pick the biggest positive from the Delhi Capitals camp it has got to be Kuldeep Yadav. The spinner has been the anchor figure in all the four matches, his franchise have won so far. 

Bowling at an economy of 8.23, the spinner has so far picked 17 wickets from nine encounters and is the leading wicket-taker from Delhi Capitals. 

Washington Sundar was forced to sit out after enduring a blow on his bowling hand as he dived to save a boundary. His absence was largely felt as the part-timers failed to check the run-rate, leading CSK to pile a gigantic 202/2 on the board. 

With Sundar likely to sit out, the franchise could go back to Abdul Samad, who has hardly been used ever since the poor start at the tournament. He was one of the players, who was retained by the franchise and can bowl spin and hit some huge sixes.

The venue has been a happy hunting ground for both the teams. Delhi Capitals have secured three of their four wins at the Brabourne Stadium in this season. SRH, too, have maintained a 100 per cent record at the venue, winning both the encounters they played here.

The crucial mid-table clash will also see David Warner playing against his former franchise, Sunrisers Hyderabad, for the first time after the unceremonious exit. 

The star opener is in good touch but has so far failed to convert his decent starts into big totals, something which he would look to change going into the clash. 

Warner currently leads the batting charts in the Delhi camp and has so far amassed 264 runs from seven outings at a strike-rate of 156.21.
