MUMBAI: India’s T20 allrounder Shivam Dube is now Mumbai’s new vice-captain. On Tuesday, the selectors decided to promote Dube as the deputy to skipper Ajinkya Rahane while picking the squad for the next match against Bengal to be played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata from February 2.
The need to promote Dube was necessitated as Mumbai’s regular vice-captain Shams Mulani’s will turn out for India ‘A’ in the fourth unofficial Test against England.
The 30-year-old had scored a fighting 117, besides taking 3-32 in the first innings with his seam bowling, in Mumbai’s narrow two-wicket defeat against Uttar Pradesh on Monday.
“He has performed very well and proved his worth for both India and Mumbai this season. This is a step forward for Mumbai cricket,” Mumbai chief selector Raju Kulkarni told TOI.
Rahane, who suffered a Grade 1 tear on his hamstring during the UP match and thus could not field on the final day, is in the squad with officials hoping that he will “be fit for the match”.
Meanwhile, allrounder Suryansh Shedge was rewarded for his sizzling form for the Mumbai Under-23 team with a Ranji Trophy call-up.
Shedge smashed 168 off just 133 balls in Mum -bai’s first innings total of 246 against Haryana in their ongoing U-23 Col CK Nayudu match.
In the second innings, he blasted 95 not out off 63 balls. India pace bowling allrounder Shardul Thakur has still not recovered from his ankle injury.
Left-arm spinner Aditya Dhumal, who last played a Ranji match for Mumbai in October 2017, has been recalled after performing well in local cricket.
Mumbai dominate Haryana Mumbai put themselves on the verge of victory by reducing Haryana to 86-4, chasing a target of 432, on Day Three of their Col CK Nayudu Trophy match at the Gurugram Cricket Ground (SRNCC) in Sultanpur.
Brief Scores: Mumbai 246 (Suryansh Shedge 168; Rohan Rana 4-23) & 293-2d (Angkrish Raghuvanshi 81, Divyaansh Saxena 82, Suryansh Shedge not out 95) vs Haryana 108 (Sagar Dahiya 35, Parth Vats 34; Atharva Bhosale 4-27) & 86-4
