NEW DELHI: Batting legend Sachin Tendulkar brought the coveted World Cup trophy to the field before India’s match against Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday.
Tendulkar, the global ambassador for ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, walked onto the field of his home ground to loud chants of “SACHIN!! SACHIN!!” from the crowd.

Wearing a UNICEF t-shirt, Tendulkar was accompanied by former Sri Lanka spin great Muttiah Muralitharan.
Tendulkar had also carried the World Cup trophy before the start of the match between India and Pakistan at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on October 14.

The moment came a day after the grand unveiling of the cricket legend’s life-size statue at the Wankhede Stadium.
Tendulkar’s statue, sculpted by Pramod Kale, was on Wednesday installed in a grand ceremony, besides the stand named after the cricketing icon, who was accompanied for the special occasion by his wife

Anjali and daughter Sara.
Tendulkar played in six ODI World Cup editions from 1992 to 2011 and finally won it in his last World Cup appearance on April 2, 2011 at this very venue – at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
