Mumbai registered their first victory in this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL), with Suryakumar Yadav’s half-century (51 off 39 balls) helping the team end an eight-match losing run.
Mumbai (161/5) beat Rajasthan (158/6) by five wickets at the DY Patil Stadium.
Batting first, RR captain Sanju Samson, who came in at No. 3, was dismissed after a cameo of 7-ball 16. But Jos Buttler (67 off 52 balls) played another brilliant knock to take his team to 158/6. Ravichandran Ashwin (21 off 9) provided the flourish in the end.
The RR skipper said that they could have scored more runs, but for the dew factor.
“I think we could have scored a few more runs. The dew came in and it was hard to bowl. The ball was getting wet, that’s why they changed the ball,” said Samson at the post-match presentation.
He added, “Different venues are playing in different ways. Here, batting first was a bit tougher. The ball was a bit two-paced. I think batting second was much better. It depends on the wicket you are playing on.”
This is the third defeat of Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2022, but they remain second on the points table, behind Gujarat Titans.
